I signed up for a Jessica Sprague class. Holdidays in Hand. It is free. Yesterday was the first day. I know, what was I thinking, another class, right at the time my college courses are going into finals! But, the great thing about Jessica Sprague is that the class is yours FOREVER. I can go back and look at assignments, there are no due dates. Except this one is focusing on the Holidays and I would like to have it worked on so I can really have the stories of the season.

I really have no excuses... I am a slacker. I really am. Over the summer I took a couple of classes online, played with my kids, was with a few friends who delivered babies while their husbands are not on the same continent... You get the idea. But I did get some scrapbooking in. I think I am caught up at least through most of 2005. I think I have 1 or 2 months left. I really want to get over the hump I am in so that I can start scrapbooking the most recent events in our lives. Sometimes I do take a break and do something more recent... Anyway, I don't have photos of scrapbooking today.

In a few weeks I am on my way to a convention. I am going to be running around and super busy there. I want my camera with me so I can take millions of photos... DH wants photos of some of the things he may never get to use in his career... My camera is a point and shoot, but not on the little side. It is the almost DSLR. It has a lot of the functions, takes really great photos, but no extra lenses to change out. I wanted a little envelope type thing to protect it while it is in my big bag. I am trying to not have to carry 3 different bags. On my feet all day, remember? I decided to make one. Remember the bag I made last year. I used some of the same ideas and shape behind it, but a little different... Here you go. The whole evening in photos.

The fabric... Super cute!

I ironed on interfacing to give it structure and to pad the bag as well

Next I sewed up the sides like an envelope... This will make sense in a few photos...

I then cut a 2x2 inch square on each of the corners that folded up.

Then matched the edges of the cut out part and sewed them together to make the bag have a flat bottom.

Once that was done, I turned one of the sides right side out and matched it to the other side. Right sides faced each other.

And sewed the sides together making sure there was a hole to turn it right side out.

After flipping it, I ironed it to get the seems looking their best.

I top-stitched the edges.

Added a button and ribbon to close it off.

I know it looks like a mushroom here, but I am going to find a way to pull those sides back on top.... I am just too tired of trying to figure it out today!

So, it has been a long time since I have posted! I am taking a class online that is taking up a lot of my time! Plus it is summer and I am enjoying my kids! Aside from the college course I am taking, Jessica Sprague had a free class called Photo Editing: Frame-ups & Special Effects. I signed up for it. I haven't had a lot of time to devote to it.... But, I have learned some cool photo editing things.

This is my absolute F A V O R I T E photo of my little girl! With the textures put on it, it has such a great worn feel.

This photo has the first time I have ever used a brush. That little art and word are brushes. I guess you can say that a brush is like a stamp in the real world.

This photo just has a frame and word art on it. It is a cute one of my little man!

It has been so long since I have posted here! I have our new family blog, a new volunteer position and a household to run. Not to mention super nice weather! My Crafty Friend had a birthday recently. For her birthday I made her an 8x8 scrapbook with pages of our times together, crafts we have made and I can't wait to have more pictures to scrap and add to the album! I think there were well over 200 photos to choose from. I ended up only doing 11 pages. They turned out so cute, if I do say so myself!

I went to college with a great woman, she went on to marry my home teacher. Great Man! Now they have 5 kids. Great family. Actually, they had triplets in January of 2005, one girl and two boys. Val could not have anymore children due to complications at the birth of the triplets. In October of 2007 they brought home Joshua from Uzbekistan. In December of 2007 they brought home Evan from Ukraine. You can read about that amazing journey. It is so wonderful. It always brings tears to my eyes!

But, the big announcement is....They are in the process of trying to adopt two little GIRLS from Bulgaria. This will hopefully even out the estrogen in their home! They are trying to raise some money to help them do this. Here is the link to the blog. Go check it out.

Yesterday at The Daily Digi Janet had a great post! I downladed the free template that she had made. Filled in the appropriate word (as best as I could... It is a Mad Lib!) scrapped it, and voila!

And I have also learned how to resize my photos for uploading to the web! Wow, it is so much faster! If you want to know how, go here. I have a few more things to come, I am just a little on the short side of time this morning.

super secret project

So, I told you I had been working on a secret project. She got it last night. It was for Caren, one of the greatest wives I know. She is amazing. Her husband is leaving the battalion tomorrow... Sad day, Caren will no longer be a part of the coffee group. In the military wives of the officers and first sergents get together once a month or so for a social type thing. It also helps us be more united for the other spouses. Caren was in charge of the coffee group, although in charge is not what I would call it. But, anyway. Traditionally there is a farewell, which was last night. We also gave her a gift. I made the gift. It is a scrapbook of her time with our unit. I scrapbooked it on my computer, then uploaded it to shutterfly and had it printed in a hard bound book. I must say it turned out great. We had everyone sign it just like a yearbook.

The Cover, it has an opening to see the first page of the book!

These are just a few of the pages I did, I think the book was 45 pages total. I think it turned out great!

I am super proud of my husband... I need to scrapbook this. I really do. I was thinking about it, and how I was going to do it digitally. I have a lot of hard copies, but nothing digital. So then I thought. Magazines are online. I wonder if this article is online. Lo and behold it is. The really hot guy in my life is on page 2 online. There is some foul language, but keep reading. It is good. The title of the article is not how it is in the story. I am so proud of him. I think I need to do my page right now while I am thinking about it. Also, let me tell you, he worked so hard over there. He went through so much. Lived in scary conditions. I am so glad that this article got to me (thank you editor at esquire!) right as he came home for 2 weeks. I read it and had I not had his hand to hold, I would have lost it. I did not even know everything that he was going through, he didn't want me to worry more, but, I did send him back for 2 more months a little more aware of what he was living with and I was able to be a better wife and support to him. Thank you for being my husband.

Wow, it has been a long time since I have posted. Sorry about that! I have been super busy on a secret project that I will post about after a certain someone gets it. I don't know if this person checks my blog or not, so I need to be on the safe side. I am hoping to post a new page here by the end of the weekend. Janet over at TDD has a free template up. Go check it out. I am doing it. I just need more time to do what I want!!! There are a few things going on at work for DH that I (being the army wife) get to do for him. Ü I don't mind it at all, I am just super busy! At least 3 times a week for the next 3 weeks I am up on post (about a 40 minute drive there). Meetings and meetings.

only 3 more pages left to go in my year in review album... I am stuck though. I have a lot of kits, but not one that I am inspired to do with those 3 months. why? Why? WHy? WHY?! I want to get it done so I can work on the million of other scrapbook projects I have to do. I have a project for someone that needs to be done in like 2 weeks.... Maybe I need to give up my year in review project for a few days and come back to it.... That sounds good. Enjoy!

Sometimes I think I miss paper scrapbooking. Then I do a project that involves glue, paper and ribbon. I then remember why I love digi scrapping. It is not a whole process of getting 5 million things out for one project and taking over the dining room table. But, sometimes I need to be away from the computer screen.... I guess I will have to just get the stuff out and take over. But, I really enjoyed having my best friend from high school over last night. We got out my cricut and cut our little hearts out. I knew I had a few things I had wanted to do (some since October!) so I left it all out. Good thing dh stayed at work last night (and the night before, but that is a different story!).

I have been working on our 2008 year in review album and I am just stuck. I really want to get it finished and I just can't. What is my problem? I have 3 months done, I just finished July. it isn't my favorite, and I will probably change it.... I have also done dd's valentines for her party on Friday, so that counts for something!

So, over at the dailydigi Janet had another template.... Love it! She wanted us to write about how someone got the name they have. I wrote about our dog, Jack. It is such a sweet story. I am so glad to have him in our family. Everytime I see him I am reminded about a wonderful day in our family life. It brings tears to my eyes to think about.... Enjoy!

Journaling:

one day {dd} came to me and said,"my daddy is going to bring me a little black dog named jack from iraq." what?! the whole thing rhymed, but i don't think she noticed. when talking to {dh}, he said we should do it. i got to work quickly and found a really cute miniature schnauzer. the plan was to have the kids spend the night at the christensen's house the night {dh} came home from iraq. we needed time to be {us} after not seeing each other for 9 months. the next morning, we met the breeder and got jack. when we got back to the christensen's, i went inside to get the kids while {dh} waited outside with jack. {dd} was so excited to see the dog. but the best part was when she saw her daddy. she threw herself into his arms and wouldn't let go! this was so special to all of us. what is even better is the little black dog named JACK from iraq. we couldn't have asked for a better dog!

So, I got this great album template from scrapbookgraphics. It is for the whole year of 2008. A page for each month with 12 pictures per page. YAY! I have gone through and put all the photos in. Now I am going back and adding the paper and embelishments.... I need more time in my day so I can get it done! I have only done June and October. I know, random months, but I was inspired by some paper. I am still going through and deciding what I want for other months. Enjoy!

Can I just say that I love photoshop? Seriously, I have been super jealous of people who have beautiful photos with color so rich.... I always wondered how their camera took such amazing photos. Since becoming addicted to digi scrapping I love taking photos. It is even more rewarding when I can get a picture from this:

Ok, so in my last post I talked about this site. It is fantastic. Everyday you can go read the latest entry, see what is new. They even have a spot for freebies! Check it out. Janet posted on Friday about writing. The journaling is super important in scrapbooking. For some people, like me, it is thier journal. Janet makes templates. It is amazing! She gave us a template here with the hopes that we would make a page with the things we love right now. I downloaded the template and got to work immidiatly! There was a problem. I love a lot of things! hy husband, my kids, alone time, girls nights out, good food, baking, sleeping to name a few.... But, here is what I came up with. Enjoy!

It is already the 7th of January and I have not taken ONE picture this year! I need to get the camera out. The month of December I had over 300 photos... Oh yeah, if you look on my side bar, there is blinky for this website. So worth visiting. I also feel kinda special because my very own digi scrapbook teacher is one of the two impressive women running it. I will be back with some scrap pages soon. I just bought this album from Janet Phillips for my 2008 year in review. I just can't wait to do it!

So, I HAD to change my header.... It was for Christmas, and that was over a week ago. I knew I needed to change it, I just didn't have any inspiration, I still don't. I am not too thrilled with it. So, it will probably change more over the coming weeks, just know that I am really excited for Valentines day and doing a header for that!!!

With Christmas coming, I wanted to at least make a gift... I did for my sister-in-law. But I needed to do something else. So I made this tutu for my girlie. I also got her the Tinkerbell movie to go with it. It was so stinking easy! I love it. Just for fun I thought about posting the pic of DH wearing it around his neck, but decided better. Maybe one day if he teases me too much.... I have to have some retaliation! Enjoy!

I love, love, love the smell of yummy, fattening things... Especially cookies! (and German chocolate cake!) So, yesterday morning while my girlie was at school, I baked. And they are yummy. Everyone thinks so.

So, I have been sewing up a storm! Well, actually my crafty friend has been sewing up a storm with only minimal questions. We each have 2 munchkins, although one of hers is a pre-teen. Don't kill me Crafty Friend. I think I need a new name for her. I like how my old YW leader is islandmom and I need one for this friend. I digress.

So, with 3 girls and 1 boy running about. I finished a gift for my wonderful sister-in-law. Helped my Crafty Friend make a couple of aprons, made invites for a few things (YW in excellence, PTA bingo), went to Grandpa's house for turkey day, set up Christmas and took millions of photos. Then, Tuesday night I had the crazy idea to make an apron for my cousin as a birthday/hostess gift. Off to the fabric store yesterday morning with Crafty Friend. We get into so much trouble there. Got the fabric, washed it (very important!), cut out the pattern, worked like a little bee worker. Then, this afternoon it was done! I made the whole thing in 24 hours! WOW! I need pictures. Crafty Friend took them and I need her to email them to me. I will put it up when I get them.

Oh, and big pat on the back to Craft Friend, she has completed the 4 aprons that she needed to have done in less than 2 weeks! AMAZING!

And another round of applause for her, she hasn't ever sewn before and she is a PRO! I like to think she owes it all to me, but no, not at all. She is a great seamstress! I did teach her a few of my tricks, so I can say I helped her.

I know, I know.... I have been MIA for a while. I have been busy. I started the Stories in Hand class and have been working away on that.... For more info, check here. Let me show you what I made for that class! It is all about getting the stories of your life out there. I am really excited about it. I made the binder and it has all sorts of promt questions and places to write the storie ideas quick, with when, where, what columns. I have even more ideas on how I want to organize the stories in a bigger form. The possibilities are endless.

I also have a friend who likes to craft! I mean, really. It is hard to find someone who likes the same things you do, has a munchkin the same age as one of yours, and who you feel completely comfortable with! I have found such a person. I am really excited about that. We are making some Christmas gifts, more on those after the big event! We have also made some little decorations for our homes for the holidays! We did a big "T" and "C" for Thanksgiving & Christmas. Here they are in their unfinished glory. We put the paper on the letters we got from Joann's modge-podged over them. In this picture we are waiting for them to dry. The "T" is done in Matte modge-podge and the "C" we used luster and mixed some glitter in it to make it a little more festive. It is really exciting to see them.

Here is a photo, not the best, for some reason my flash wouldn't go off. I need to wait for crafty friend to email me her photos too. But these are the completed "T". We put 3 different ribbons around the top of the "T." Ricrac around the seam of where the 2 different papers meet. Ribbon and a tag with the words "give thanks" and "family" around the part where the "T" meets. Super, super CUTE!

My good friend has an awsome new alpha up. Even better, it is only a BUCK! YAY! She has fonts and another acrylic alpha too. Check her out. So, I have finished 2 of the 3 aprons I am making. YAY! I am so excited for them. I will post pictures later.... I made this -

altered can for dd's teacher. It is a can (think soup, fruit) that has a pop top lid, I took my pampered chef can opener and opened it at the bottom so the pop top is still intact. Used whatever soup was in the can.... Washed the can out. Decorated the outside. Stuffed it with candy. Super glued bottom on. Tied ribbons on the pop top. Off to pick DD up from school! Enjoy!

So, I have been working on these aprons for two weeks. Life gets in the way sometimes. I have one almost finished, just the halter straps. The other one is waiting to be sewn together and the halter straps done. Then, I have another that is cut out and ready to be made. I will have some photos up soon. Just not of the one for my dear sister in law. She knows she is getting one for Christmas, she just doesn't know what it will look like. Who am I to spoil that suprise?

If only there were more hours in my day. I have so many things to scrapbook, but I have committed to making an apron for my coffee group. Plus I am doing a couple of other sewing things and they take up table space. In order to get dinner back on the table for us I am having to give my scrapbooking time to sewing. So, I am playing catch up with the last 6 or 7 years of life. What happens to time? Oh wait, time passed in the form of the two cutest kids ever! But, now with this wonderful thing of digi scrapping I can scrapbook for 3 or 4 minutes and leave it on the computer. Don't have to worry about cutting paper, cleaning up before 2 sets of messy hands can touch it, running out of anything! I love it.I am so grateful to islandmom for introducing me to templates, it really does make the scrapbooking go faster!

So, this is from when dd was about 5 months old. Her first Christmas. WOW, time has flown. I still remember when she was this little. The little guy with her is 4 months younger and weighs the same as her!

I am now finished with ds' baby book. Each of my kids get a scrapbook with thier first year, then it is family albums. I am so glad to be done with his book. It has 39 pages, off to Costco I go! I can't wait to have them. He will enjoy looking at them. Now on to getting caught up for the rest of our lives!!!! Here is the last picture from his album. Enjoy!

Well, it is about time I updated the site. Gave it a little face lift if you will. If you are wondering where I got the super cute scrapping stuff, it is Harvest Spice by shabbyprincess. The super cute font is called Doodle Dance by Fontologie. I thought about doing a halloween theme, but then thought better of it. I would probably forget to change it at the end of the month and then it would be a big problem. If I didn't have so many things going on, I would be better about it, but thus is the life of a wife and mommy. Enjoy!

Yes, I am still doing baby book for baby boy... a few years late. Here is the halloween from 2006, his first. I love when I can do one layout and it can be for 2 things. YAY! I am just a few years behind on some hollidays. I am all caught up on Christmas, so that has to count for something. Super ready for this baby book to be over, I get teary eyed when I see how little he used to be. Now he is growing up on me. Potty training and using big sentences. I think this is why people keep having kids. They remember the little guys. But, with a hubby that is going to be gone for a looooong time, another baby just isn't a good idea. I will have to live through photos.

So, after a lot of scrapping has happened, I have finally found the color I want to use for the text! It is hard to do, I didn't like the black, but I couldn't find one that really matched and showed up at the same time. Now I have, chocolate. I think I need some now. That would go perfectly with my scrapping I am doing! Here is a sample of what I have been working on.

So, that is it. The hard drive died! But, I am so lucky to have a brother that is super good at computers. I can play on one, scrapbook, shop, but I can't ever figure out what is wrong with it! Why was it running slow? I just don't know. But, he came over and turned it off and back on. A message, "hard drive failure is imminent." hello! I should have read, but I just kept pushing F2. So, today we went to best buy and got a new hard drive. My wonderful brother put it in and set up the basic things on the computer for me. Now I am waiting to download photoshop elements again!! Thank goodness for external hard drives, I didn't loose anything.

On another note my friend has a new font in studio fontologie. It is called Doodle Dance, and it is on sale! I personally love this font, it is super cute and fun. I can't wait to get my computer up to where it was pre-hard drive failure and use it!! I think I will use it to make a new header for the blog. Back to the reinstalling of programs!

I know, you know I don't drink coffee. In fact I don't even like the smell of it. But, being an Army Wife (the show is great, just not completely real) we do fun things. Once a month the officer's spouses (usually wives, but we cannot forget that there are women in the army) get together for a "coffee." It is called that because way back when the ladies would gather and drink coffee. Now we get together and do a number of things. The main thing is to discuss what is going on in the unit. I went to my first one with our new unit. It was a ton of fun. Well, the leader always takes a picture of the group each month. She sent it out, and this is what I did with it. Enjoy!

I used Indian Summer and I love, love, love it! I love all of the rich colors in it. I didn't use a whole lot of the colors, but it is so fun.

So, as you know I went to visit my friend last week. Before I had been scrapbooking just point and click. Not really with any format. With my paper scraping that I had done, I had a book with "recipes" in it. You know, it told you how many solid or patterned papers to use, what sizes to cut the paper to. I loved it. But thanks to islandmom, I have found layered templates. You can find them online for a small price. Some even do mini albums, for like a vacation. Or like this one for summer 2008. I am now even more in love with digi scraping. I really like delete. With paper scrapbooking you can't delete the paper because you don't like how it looks. Ah, I love it! So, here are a couple of pages that I did since my last post. All using the wonderful templates!

So, in my post I said I was meeting with digi scrapper friend next week. Nope, I sure went today. It was so much fun. I learned some new things. YAY! We even got another friend hooked on digi. So, I did a layout with one of islandmom's templates. She is awesome and patient at teaching us these techniques! I learned shortcuts and layering techniques to make it look more dimensional. I can't wait to work more on my scrapbooks. I better get busy, I am soooo far behind!!!! Enjoy!

Super exciting

So, growing up I had a fantastic Young Women's leader. I always wanted to grow up and be like her. In fact my hubby and her hubby have the same first name! Even better. 7 years later I am visiting in my hometown with some friends from back then. I find out that this YW leader is into digi scraping! So I find her blog and she has a handy little thing at the top that says email me. I do just that. Someone to talk and learn about digi scraping from. She is good. Better yet, she makes her own fonts! Check them out here. They are super fun and adorable. It gets better, inthe next week I get to go to her house with my munchkins so they can play with her munchkins and learn more about this new love of mine, digi scraping.

BTW, my free trial with Adobe Photoshop Elements ended. So, I did what any person in my situation would do, I bought it. Yep $100 later I now have it forever! Or until they come out with a new version, which will probably be tomorrow. I will be posting some pages soon. That apron took some of my time and then life got a little busy for a few days. But, be prepared for some school day inspired stuff. DD is going to kindergarten next week!!!!!

That is the word for me today. I have finished my super cute apron! YAY! We had company from Thursday-Monday and I was not able to get sewing done. But, now everything is finished and I am happy. I love, love, love this pattern. It was easy to follow and easy to use. I have had sewing ambitions before and they never turn out so well. This one was above and beyond. I am thinking maybe Christmas or Birthday gifts for my sisters-in-law. Here are a couple of pictures I took of it, and I will have dh take some pictures of me wearing it tonight when we are home. Enjoy!

So they aren't the best photos, but with 2 kids and a dog inside due to the rain outside, this is the best I managed! I am trying to think of something to cook so I can wear it!

Working on it

So, I had another sewing project I had to complete before I could make my apron. So, I finished it yesterday. I will post pictures of it here. So, now I am working on my apron. Let me just say this, the instructions and illustrations are fantastic. The pattern is printed on thicker than computer paper, but not as sturdy as cardstock. So I traced the pattern onto tissue paper and then pinned it to my fabric and cut out. I am so happy. I am actually pretty far along in the making part, but I have not gotten to the fine detail work of hand stitching that it will require. I think then I will be slow moving. But, even in pieces it is looking good! YAY!

So, I have the treat basket from here and they only make liners for Valentines, Easter, Halloween and Christmas. Nothing for the summer months. So, I made one, a little late for the whole summer, but I moved this summer. It is not even close to greatness, but it will work. I won't even show you the inside. Enjoy!

So, today in my mailbox was my apron pattern. I am super excited. Let me tell you. I am doing laundry today, so my fabric that I bought on Saturday is getting washed. It is not going fast enough. I also can't wait for dd and ds to go to bed so I can sew, sew, sew. The pattern is super sturdy, not at all tissue paper, sturdy white paper. The instructions look fantastic too. I am thinking this is going to work out nicely! No pictures, but I am supper excited. Oh, with my pattern came a little business card, the lady who made the pattern has her own website and blog. Oh, I figured out how to do that, I was wondering how people made the hyperlink the word and not the link. Yay me! Alright, back to the daily grind... Just FYI, I love my hardwood floors that cover my house, I just hate sweeping and moping. It is nice with little munchkins who spill a lot!

So, I came upon this super cute apron that my friend from college made as part of an apron swap. I loved it. In fact, yesterday in all my excitement over my new bag, I ordered the pattern. It came from http://www.etsy.com/. Fantastic site by the way! Check it out. It is all handmade stuff. It is free for you to sign up, you are given a domain name and all that. So if you are super handy and make things yourself you can sell on there. But, I bought this pattern called Emmeline Apron. It is reversible, so two aprons in one! Soon I will be getting my pattern and making one. I am thinking of this or the bags as Christmas presents this year. Here is the apron:

I thought this whole blog would be for my digi scraping obsession. But no, I do have some crafts that I do away from the computer. So, I guess this will also be my craft sharing outlet too. DH really is not into crafting (suprised?), he humors me and tells me things look nice and all that. But, I really am excited about my creations. So, you get to see them too. I made this last night with a friend. I saw her with this incredibly cute bag at church and thought it would be perfect for my new calling as beehive advisor. I asked where she got it and to my suprise she said she made it! So, off we went. She showed me my new favorite fabric store. We were up until midnight sewing away! Here is the finished product. So this is so not really a scrapbook page/layout, but one day I may make a little blurb on a layout. I was feeling a little crafty, so I pulled my cricut out. Did you know that they make vinyl for it?! So, I cut out "sweet dreams" and a few little flowers and stuck it to the wall above dd's bed.

I have always loved scrapbooking. I am just now getting in to digital scraping. When ever people have come over I have loved sharing our family scrapbooks with them. In fact I get anxious to share them and the time is never really right. So, now that I am into digi scraping I needed a place to share the layouts I make. Here it is.
